In Memory Of John Murray

John Patrick Murray, 69, of Hurst, TX died of complications from Congestive Heart Failure, Wednesday, November 2, surrounded by his wife and daughters.
Born in Great Barrington, MA on November 23, 1941, son of William Martin and Antoinette M. (Wool) Murray, he grew up in Housatonic, MA where he was a communicant of Corpus Christi Church. He attended local schools, graduating from Searles High School before enlisting in the Navy. While stationed in Great Lakes, IL, he attended a USO dance where he met Barbara Jean Calhoun of Milwaukee, WI. They were married on August 4, 1962.
Mr. Murray’s Naval service included duty on the USS Gearing during the "quarantine" patrol against Cuba in October, 1962. Following his military service, he enjoyed a lengthy career with Pratt & Whitney and was most recently employed by Bell Helicopter, preceding his retirement. He was an avid golfer from an early age, caddying to earn greens fees, or sneak in a complimentary round. Following his family’s relocations to Maryland, Pennsylvania, and ultimately to Texas, he joined the Miller Golf Club and remained a member until his passing.
Mr. Murray is preceded in death by his parents, his sister JoAnne Capocci, and three of his children, Michael, Barbara and Danny. He leaves his wife of 49 years, Barbara Murray; three daughters, Anne-Marie Lofton and her husband Cary, of Dallas, TX, Carolyn Murray of Euless, TX and Katherine Murray of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Zachary Lee and Emma Kate Lofton; a sister, Mary-Anne Murray of Great Barrington, MA; a brother, William Murray, Jr. of Housatonic, MA; and brother-in-law William Capocci, Jr. of Whitman, MA, along with seven nieces and four nephews. He will be remembered for his quiet demeanor and accompanying dry sense of humor, as well as for taking a book with him wherever he went – except the golf course.
A remembrance gathering for family and friends will be held on Sunday, November 13, 5:30 - 7:30 pm., at Wellspring Church, 7300 Smithfield Road, North Richland Hills, TX 76180.
Mr. Murray will be laid to rest at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211, on Monday, November 14 at 10:30 a.m. Attendees are directed to proceed in their vehicles to Line A, at least fifteen minutes prior to the service.
